ADA 30 Year Celebration T-Shirts

Kentucky Celebrates with Idaho

The Idaho Council on Developmental Disabilities is excited to be celebrating 30 years of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Idaho's Council is partnering with other Idaho Disability organizations to create a virtual celebration from July 17, 2020 - October 31, 2020. Kentucky's CCDD joined in on the celebration!

Our Statements:

Kellie McCain: " The ADA makes me happy to know the people I love and serve have protections under the law."

Jennifer Hicks: "I like the ADA because it strengthens people’s rights and holds systems accountable for being accessible."

Carol Tudor: "Because of the ADA, people with different abilities have the opportunity to go to work, and school and participate in everyday activities, just like people without a disability."

Nicole Maher: "The ADA has helped me relax as a mother, knowing her rights are protected."

Katie Bentley: "The ADA means opportunity for my son to live, thrive, and be an active member of our community."

Paige Harder: "The ADA has helped me make friendships and taught me to strive for inclusion in all aspects of life."

Vicki Goins: "The ADA has made me much more aware - of my language, my surroundings, my thoughts and my opinions and how all of this impacts others"

How to Participate with Idaho and the ADA:

Everyone is welcome to participate and you don’t have to be a person with a disability to participate in the t-shirt campaign. A video will be created of all the social media images shared during the event. The goal is to share stories with as many people as possible.

To participate, you will do the following:

1.  Request a t-shirt CLICK HERE to order from the Idaho DD Council

2.  Wear your t-shirt

3.  Take a picture of you (or your group) somewhere, doing something, that connects with the ADA experience you want to share. Please set your camera to the highest quality settings.

4.  Ideas of things you can do:

  • Posing with your service dog in a business, park, on the sidewalk
  • Using your assistive technology
  • Using a form of effective communication like:
    • reading large print or Braille menus,
    • using a video phone,
    • working with a sign language interpreter, watching a video with captioning.
  • Using accessible features like:
    • Accessible transportation,
    • Audible/vibrating pedestrian signals,
    • Accessible parking spaces, curb cuts, ramps, sidewalks
    •  Accessible playground equipment or lifts into pools, accessible trails, boating docks, fishing piers, an accessible beach, and beach wheelchairs, etc.

5.   Write a short explanation of the picture and what you are doing or how the things in the picture help you. Try to make it only three or four sentences.

6.   Include the first names of those in the photo or if you are a group of people identify who you represent.

7.   Email the description and your picture through the months of July to October 31. Send your picture to this email: [email protected] or post on the ADA Celebration Facebook page https://m.facebook.com/ADA30Idaho/

These pictures will be posted on social media and linked through our ADA hashtags (#ThanksToTheADA #WhatTheADAMeansToMe  #ADA30Idaho #ADA30).
